Alyssa Ney Awarded ERC Advanced Grant

Congratulations to Professor Alyssa Ney on being awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for her project "The Nature of Reality According to Quantum Physics (MetaQ)."

The project investigates one of the central questions in the philosophy of physics: What does quantum mechanics tell us about the nature of reality? MetaQ examines a class of influential interpretations that assign a fundamental role to observers, including QBism and information-theoretic approaches inspired by John Wheeler. While these views are widely discussed in physics, they have received comparatively little philosophical attention. The project will provide the first systematic metaphysical assessment of these approaches and explore their implications for our understanding of physical reality, human agency, and free will.
